Leaving Beaune

These are random pictures taken on our ride home from the Hotel Dieu in Beaune.

We aren't out of Beaune yet...

Surrounding Beaune are some of the biggest vineyards in the Burgundy area.
Because of the wealth in this area, the vineyards are often enclosed by stone walls...

 hectare upon hectare of vineyards...

Looking for a chateau behind a stone wall...
never found a good look at what was hidden by walls and trees...
but this chateau stood out behind its walled vineyard.
Here's a good look at a tractor built to travel with its wheels straddling the grape vines.

This is a famous chateau, but it isn't easily seen from the road.
Here is a nearby lavoir. Every lavoir needs a stream...

Streets can suddenly  become very narrow.

On roads barely wide enough for 2 cars to pass each other, I realized that when I was driving and would see another car approaching, I would automatically breathe in and hold my breath, almost as if I were trying to create a vacuum that would pull in the sides of my car.
It doesn't look as narrow when there is no car filling the space.

I think I'm in love with towers, turrets, and arches.

Harriet Ann began falling in love with the variety of street lamps.

Then there is my first love...the lavoir.

Here is one I haven't seen before. It's in the center of a small village, but right on the main street.

 Nice windows and clean water!
Only a rooftop is visible outside the wall for this chateau.
The most popular iris color seems to be the light blue. All the dark purple iris in Blanot bloomed early and are now gone, so I was delighted to see this patch of iris. We were back in Blanot in plenty of time to keep our dinner invitation at Francoise's home.

Sharing laughter is probably more important than the food, though the food is always good when Francoise is the cook.

This is a guillotine for bread!

The main course was baby goat. I had a second serving and cleaned my plate.
